1. ABOUT THIS POLICY

We are committed to providing a quality service in a manner that ensures a safe and healthy workplace for our employees and minimises our potential impact on the environment. We will operate in compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and we will strive to use pollution prevention and environmental best practices in all we do

2. PERSONNEL RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS POLICY

  • Overall and final responsibility lies with the Directors, Gareth Copping and Louise
  • Day to day responsibility for the actions required to implement this policy lies with the SHEQ Co-ordinator

3. OUR COMMITMENTS

We shall strive to incorporate sustainability in to our core business operations through internal and external efforts. We will:

  • Consider the environmental concerns and impacts into all of our decision making and activities including the design of new and revised products. See Operating Procedure OP34.
  • Promote environmental awareness amongst our employees through our Waste Reduction & Recycling Policy, encouraging them to work in an environmentally responsible manner. We will do this through training and education, updating them face to face with details of new or amended policies and making these available through our intranet.
  • 100% of new staff will receive a face-to-face overview of the policy within one month of starting their employment with NUP and given an opportunity to discuss it and ask
  • Reduce waste through re-use and recycling and by purchasing recycled, recyclable or refurbished products and materials where these alternatives are available, economic and Details are kept in our Providers & Packaging Document which is updated as part of an ongoing review of providers and the products available.
  • Promote efficient use of materials and resources throughout our facility including water, electricity raw materials and other resources, particularly those that are non-renewable.
  • Avoid unnecessary use of hazardous materials and products, seek substitutions when feasible and take all reasonable steps to protect human health and the environment when such materials must be used, stored and disposed We will maintain appropriate spill response programmes. Details are in our COSHH, Health & Safety and Safe Workplace Policies.
  • Purchase and use environmentally responsible products where economically viable, taking in to consideration whether they are: biodegradable, recycled, reusable and the carbon footprint of the suppliers.
  • Where required by legislation or where significant health and safety or environmental hazards exist, develop and maintain appropriate emergency response programmes. Details of these are held in our Health & Safety Risk Assessment and Fire Risk Assessment .
  • Make this policy available on our website to communicate our environmental commitment to clients, customers and the public and encourage them to support it
  • Strive to continually improve our performance and minimise the social impact and environmental damage of our activities,
  • Review and revise this policy regularly
